Security Suite Review and Recommendation

-According to PCmag.com security suites should have the following features:

          1.     Anti-virus
2.     Malware, spyware, adware protection
3.     A firewall
4.     Spam filter
5.     Phishing and privacy protection
6.     VPN
7.     iOS or Android security
8.     Data backup (optional)
9.    Parental controls (optional)

-The cost of a suite is based on the number of features offered and the number of devices protected. The most basic suites might only provide malware protection and a firewall for a single device. More advanced suites add additional features and protect multiple devices. Suites should not be used to provide enterprise level security.

-I reviewed the below listed suites:

ü  Password storage and management

ü  Automatic backup of files

   Subscription cost: $99.99 per year: promotional cost $39.99 for new customers

-Bitdefender Total Security features:

ü  Protects up to 5 devices; PC, Macs, and mobile devices

ü  Anti-virus, malware, spyware, ransomware protection

ü  Free online support

ü  Safeguards identity and online transactions

ü  VPN

ü  Password storage and management

ü  Parental controls

ü  Webcam protection

ü  File shredder

ü  Anti-theft protection

           

Subscription cost: $89.99 per year: promotional cost $44.99 for new customers

-Product recommendation:

I recommend the Bitdefender Total Security suite because of its advertised features and its subscription cost. The Bitdefender suite offered the same features as the Norton and Kaspersky products, but in addition it offered a VPN feature, a file shredder feature, webcam protection, and anti-theft protection. The cost for new customers, $44.99, was not the cheapest, but the product had lowest annual subscription cost at $89.99/year. The suite protects up to five devices, which should be enough coverage for a household. Norton protects more, but it is the most expensive. The suite is a PCmag.com editor’s choice: “Bottom Line: If you want every security component in a single well-integrated package, plus bonus features, Bitdefender's Total Security mega-suite is what you need.” (Rubenking, 2019)
